A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE - UIL ONE ACT PLAY 2022

SARAH DEVITO

Sarah DeVito is in her 9th year of teaching at Keller Central High School. Prior to teaching in Keller ISD, Sarah received a BFA in Theatre Education from the University of Houston. Sarah served as the lead high school theatre teacher for five years within Keller ISD.

She has been a part of the directing team for The Awakening of Spring (2017 Alternate to State), Golden Boy (2018 Alternate to State), Medea (2019 6A UIL One Act Play State Champion), & The Corn is Green (2024 State First Runner-up). She also had the opportunity to direct In the Heights, Newsies, The Spongebob Musical, and Mary Poppins, all Kelley's Best Musical award winners. She has directed multiple musicals garnering 100+ awards from Betty Buckley Awards, Kelley Awards, Schmidt & Jones Awards, and Broadway Dallas HSTMA. In 2022, she helped coach a student to the Jimmy Awards, where he earned a spot in the top 16 as a semi-finalist. Sarah was also the recipient of the Broadway Dallas High School Musical Theatre award for Outstanding Educator in 2023. Sarah is a proud TxETA member and serves on UIL One Act Play Advisory.

Additional directing credits include: A View from the Bridge (2022 Alternate to Region), Amadeus, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, She Kills Monsters, and Our Country's Good.

GRAYSON MERCHANT

Grayson Merchant is an educator, director, and designer at Keller Central High School within Keller ISD. Throughout his tenure at Keller Central, Grayson has co-directed multiple Area, Region and State qualifying UIL One-Act Plays. Notable achievements include a State appearance "The Corn is Green" (placing first runner-up), along with qualifications for area and regional rounds in 2022, 2023, 2024. 

Grayson's impact extends to coaching students to success in UIL Theatrical Design State competitions, placing as the State Championship in Division II Scenic Design in 2022 and achieving First Runner-up in Division II Scenic Design in 2023.

Grayson has been on the directing team of Betty Lynn Buckley Best Musical productions of 2022 and 2023 (The Spongebob Musical & The Music Man). Within Broadway Dallas High School Musical Theatre awards, Keller Central has been nominated and won multiple categories– notably: Best Set and Best Lighting. Since 2022, Grayson has been an indispensable part of the directing team, instrumental in securing over 100+ nominations/awards for productions at Keller Central.

Before transitioning to education, Grayson honed his craft regionally and Off-Broadway as an Assistant Scenic Designer for acclaimed Tony nominated Broadway Set Designers. He remains deeply engaged in the theatrical community as a proud member of TxETA, presenting at UIL Capital conference in 2023, and has served on the UIL Theatrical Design advisory committee. Grayson holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatrical Design from the esteemed University of Oklahoma’s Helmerich School of Drama.
